How the sizes are worked out
- Plain squares: finished size + 1/2″.
- Half-square triangles, two at a time: finished size + 7/8″.
- Flying geese, no-waste four at a time: large square = finished width + 1 1/4″, small squares = finished height + 7/8″.
- Rail fence: strips are one third of the finished block + 1/2″ wide, finished block + 1/2″ long.
- Binding: 2 1/2″ strips, total length = perimeter + 10″.
